New art supplies

I had a recent birthday and bought myself some new art supplies…even though I have been resisting the temptation over the past few months…I treated myself.

My absolute favourite new thing is Jane Davenport Layer Cake Paints. I first purchased the neon set and loved it so much I then got the Sushi Roll set and love them too. I don’t know which I like the most. Just know that these are the most beautiful creamy watercolour/gouache paints I have tried. This is my desk , and most of these paintings are actually done with inks and other watercolours, but the Layer Cake Paints are the ones in the long palette at the top of the image.

Some pattern making.
Love pink and red together!
Small clusters make beautiful patterns.
Why not some mirrors with neon pink background!
Some doodles and lots of colours.
This is the Sushi Roll Layer Cake Paints, so lovely.

Get your paints out and make some marks, even if its a 10 minute session.

The caravan love continues….

If you enjoy something, you tend to repeat the action….

I’ve used several mediums on these post card sized artworks. I start with some shimmer spray and then go in with Dylusions inks, watercolours and gelato crayons. I draw with fine liner pens in black and then add highlights with Jane Davenport neon layer cake paints and powder pigments. Sometimes I add Posca pen marks and stamping in black.
If you haven’t tried Jane Davenports art supplies, you definitely need to, they are awesome.
Posca pens are lovely to use also and they come in a big variety of colours and size. I love the thinner ones and mostly use black and white…and pink!
Stamping in my art is huge and I use a Versafine Clair black stamp pad, its crisp and lovely.
I often use old work that I’ve made. I try new paint techniques on 12 x12 watercolour card to use for my scrapbooking page and often they don’t turn out like I had planned so I cut these up and use them to create new art. Sometimes theres marks in the background that I incorporate into the new art. This one had large petals which I’ve made into trees in the new art. I could sit here all day and create these little treasures, its very addictive and each one is different and unique.
Get out your art supplies-ANYTHING, even paper and glue and create collage, painty backdrops, start small, it feels less intimidating and takes a shorter amount of time. It’s very therapeutic and satisfying all at once. Have a great Sunday!
